A place of safety

There are many things I could blog about tonight: the hate-crimes bill, Obama overturning Bush's restriction on embryonic stem cell research, or the swine flu. As believers in Christ, these serious issues deserve our close attention and much prayer. And I am praying a lot about them.

But what I am hearing tonight is this: keep your eyes on Jesus, not on the winds and the waves of uncertainty. "Be still and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10)

There's a lot of scary stuff going on right now, but we don't need to be ruled by fear. Jesus said in John 14:27, "Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you, not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, nor let it be afraid."

Just as a baby who is crying is hushed in his parents' protective arms, so God is holding us His children in His loving, strong hands. God is still on the throne. He is not up in heaven having a panic attack or freaking out over these things. He's got it all under control, and we need to just trust Him.

Be still. Be at peace. For God your Father loves you and is your safe place, your refuge, your strong tower in times of trouble.

Here is the music group Delirious' video of "Majesty" (Here I am) on You Tube. The Lord reigns in majesty.
